The natural beauty of Algarve allows for holidays with a lot of diverse activities and sights to discover. Through this article we’ll present some of the places we find more relevant to discover, by their beauty and typicalness – all are included in our Algarve West to East bike tour.
Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina’s Natural Park
It’s a paradise of deserted beaches and has a unique biodiversity, making it one of Algarve’s unmissable spots for a bike ride.
Sagres is Portugal’s southernmost village, where the portuguese caravelas sailed from six centuries ago, onto one of the greatest journeys in the world’s history: the Portuguese Discoveries.
After the wonderful beach landscapes you’ll get to enjoy on your bike ride to Lagos, you can discover the most typical sweet in the region, the Dom Rodrigo. This delicacy is made from eggs, almonds and cinnamon and its first recipe comes from the Lagos Monastery’s friars. And here’s another advantage of bike riding ad working out, you can have as many as you want! So delicious.
A village known for its delicious homemade bread, made on firewood ovens. You can not only taste it, but also find out how it’s made, all with your bike close by. The ride continues after a wonderful snack prepared by our chef and only made better by this typical regional bread.
Praia da Rocha
The long beaches and its natural cliffs are a perfect appetizer for a refreshing dive in Algarve’s wonderful waters. The salted water running through your body, the cool (not cold) temperature, and your mind wandering through the rest it deserves. Truly unforgettable, trust us!
Castelo de Silves
Silves’ Castle is one of the better preserved muslim fortifications, dating back to the 10th century. A stunning sight to see by itself, and arriving on a bike after a day filled with activities, like a visit to a local winery, makes the moment even more special. A true heightening of the senses.
Palácio de Estói
A nineteenth century palace, filled with history and enchanting detail, turned into a luxury hotel. We’re sure you’re already imagining yourself making the most of it!
A typical Algarve village, with its narrow streets and white houses, where you can visit an oil mill, understand the production process of this very common and famous portuguese product, and, of course, taste it.
Quinta das Correias
A wine producing family farm, with some international prize winning wines, at your service for a tour through all its corners. Its owner will guide you through a passionate presentation of their wines, and you won’t want to miss a second, believe us. Next up, a bike ride to our next destination!
A wonderful algarve city, known not only by its cuisine and lovely beaches, but also its lodgings, where you can spend the night before discovering Ria Formosa’s Natural Park. Here you’ll see hundreds of different birds’ species and enjoy fantastic sceneries. All while pedalling through nature!
So as to end (this article, not our ride through Algarve), we have Castro Marim, a city known for its salt production. A bike ride through its salt mines is also truly unforgettable.
All these places are accessible in our Algarve West to East bike tour. Will you continue to delay your dream vacation?
